UAE weather alert: Near-zero visibility expected Wednesday morning amid dense fog
NCM alert in place until 10am amid high humidity levels
DUBAI – The National Centre of Meteorology has issued a dense fog warning for parts of the UAE, cautioning motorists against severely reduced visibility during the early hours of Wednesday.
According to the advisory, horizontal visibility is expected to drop sharply and may reach near-zero levels in several inland and coastal areas. The alert is in effect from 12.30am until 10am today (Wednesday).
Authorities have urged drivers to exercise extreme caution, particularly during the morning commute, and to adhere strictly to road safety instructions. The warning follows forecasts of humid overnight conditions, which significantly increase the likelihood of fog and light mist forming across multiple regions.
Fog alert
The NCM stated that fog formation is expected from late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, affecting internal roads as well as coastal and island areas. In some locations, visibility may become completely obscured for short periods, creating hazardous driving conditions. Reduced visibility is expected to be most pronounced during the early morning hours before gradually improving later in the day.
Motorists have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during peak fog periods and to use low-beam headlights when driving. Sudden braking and lane changes should be avoided, particularly on highways where visibility may deteriorate rapidly.
Weather outlook
Despite the fog warning, the general weather conditions across the UAE are forecast to remain fair to partly cloudy. Low clouds are expected to form over eastern regions, while temperatures are set to rise gradually as the day progresses. Daytime conditions are not expected to be disrupted once fog dissipates.
Humidity levels are forecast to peak at up to 90 per cent in coastal and island areas during the night and early morning hours. Meteorologists note that this elevated moisture content in the air plays a key role in fog development, especially when accompanied by calm or light winds.
Road safety
Authorities continue to stress the importance of following electronic road signs and official advisories during adverse weather conditions. Reduced speed limits may be enforced in fog-affected areas, and motorists are urged to maintain safe distances between vehicles.
